Meet Dean Schoonover

Dean Schoonover has spent the last 40 years immersed in the surf industry — not just as a rep, but as someone whose life and work have always revolved around surfing. From competing in local ESA contests to shaping the retail landscape across the East Coast, Dean’s path has been defined by hands-on experience and long-term relationships.

Starting as an aspiring East Coast surfer featured in early surf magazines, Dean went on to represent major international brands, contribute to product development, and support retailers ranging from core surf shops like Eastern Lines to large coastal retail chains. He’s also credited with influencing key gear decisions — including the now-preferred front-zip wetsuit system from Xcel.

In June 2025, Dean was inducted into the New Jersey Surfing Hall of Fame — a recognition of his lifelong commitment to the sport and the community behind it. He continues to serve as Secretary of the Hall and previously served nine years on the Board of Education, including seven years as President.
